He Lives The Good Life

When the boy got his summer haircut a couple of weeks ago, he wanted to call his dad as soon as we got in the car.

“Guess what, Dad!  I just got my mohawk done!  It’s awesome!  A zero on the sides- completely bald!  It’s so cool!  I can’t wait ’til you see it tonight!!”

He was talking like we had just spent the day at Disneyland, rather than a half hour at the barber shop.

A nine dollar haircut had pretty much made this kid’s day.

I told the boy to give me the phone when he was done talking to his dad.

“Mom!  You can’t talk on the phone!  You’re DRIVING!”, said my boy, always the rule follower.

“Just give me the phone for a minute”, I said.

For just a minute, I broke the law to ask the husband this:

“Honey!  How can our boy be living the good life and WE are struggling so very hard?  How can that be?!”

And yet, it seems to be true.

He DOES live the good life, in spite of all that is happening in our lives.

Thank goodness for that.  Really.
